In conjunction with the current exhibition Rebuilding Newark, Aljira will host a community forum that speaks to the role of neighborhood Community Development Corporations and the policies and practices that shaped them to rebuild Newark after 1967. Leading the discussion will be Richard Cammarieri, Director of Special Projects of New Community Corporation. Presenters include Robert Curvin, PhD, Distinguished Senior Policy Fellow of Edward J. Bloustein School at Rutgers University and Raymond Ocasio, Executive Director of La Casa de Don Pedro

Please join us for a special closing reception for the exhibitions Bending the Grid: Rest In Peace by Helen M. Stummer, 5 Days in July: A Video Installation, and Rebuilding Newark. These exhibitions will remain on view through February 23, 2008.

Artist talk with filmmaker Chuck Schultz and visual artist Esther Podemski moderated by Komozi Woodward, Professor of History at Sarah Lawrence College, in conjunction with the exhibition 5 Days in July: A Video Installation.

7:30pm
Screening of the documentary film Revolution ‘67 by Marylou Tibaldo-Bongiorno and Jerome Bongiorno, an additional perspective on the 1967 Newark civil disturbances.
