Mad Hatter: TBG's Jim Crow New Era

Hailing from Toronto, veteran streetwear brand TOO BLACK GUYS aka TBG has been putting it down since 1991. (Check early videos of Mary J Blidge, A Tribe Called Quest and Ice Cube.) After a brief hiatus, founder/designer Adrian Aitcheson relaunched the TBG brand, bringing back it’s Afro-centric message to the masses. TBG addresses sensitive social-political issues with sarcasm and wit in their themed collections of apparel and accessories.

Jim Crow was the name of system of apartheid in US Southern states between 1877 and the mid-1960s. Jim Crow laws legitimized treatment of African Americans as second class citizens, depriving them of their civil rights. Jim Crow laws promoted rigid racial separatism in public schools, transportation and restrooms.

TBG’s “Jim Crow Couture” collection for Summer ‘08 includes a limited NEW ERA 59Fifty fitted cap. These caps are solid Black with a Turquoise under bill and features the TGB Jim Crow character in 3D embroidery. This release will arrive at TBG retailers this week.
