American Gangster
So far I've seen it a total of three times. Thank god it still came in number 1 this weekend because I thought the bootleg was really going to hurt the movie but it did well. Friday I ran to the movies for the first showing @ the clearview in south orange. Usually whenever I go, no matter what movie it has been the theatre never has more then 20 seats filled. Prior to this the most people at a showing was for O Jersuleum and that was probably because it was a Saturday. But while on line at the box office there was four white college guys copping some tickets and it was for american gangster and there was a white couple behind me and they were going to see american gangster too. Not really surprising because it's my "out the hood" spot and there's mostly white people who go to this theater, besides they are young kids. As soon as I walk into the theater it's the most crowded I've seen it. It's 330 and I was hoping most people were still at work. When I took a seat I scouted the room and the only people of colour were two latinas seating a row behind me and from there the rest were all whites; from elderly couples to indie film junkies. I had the biggest smile on my face. I felt for the first time they came to see an African American film in hopes of seeing a greatly done piece of art instead of a bang-bang nigga shottem' up type film. The second time I saw it was on bootleg with my parents and while my mom fell asleep from working all day, my pops loved it. Feeling dirty for watching on bootleg I had to watch it again offically...lol.Yesterday I went to watch it again at the movies @ Jersey Gardens in Elizabeth. More of an URBAN crowd (lol... I love saying that) I watched it again. Lets just say I was happy I didn't watch it the first time there..lol. But it's crazy people are badmouthing this film. People are never satisfied. Be happy for what it is. Fuck it if they stuck to the script or if they reinvented the characters. So what if has mad rappers with crappy parts. I'm pretty sure they where just happy to be part of such a landmark (in my mind) film. And it was def. cool seeing somebody I went to school with in there too... what up warren.. haha. But I saw this trailer yesterday for the new Will Smith movie and I can't wait!
